I know this is a topic that is endlessly debated and discussed on the blogosphere and elsewhere, but it’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately. I have two conflicting approaches to it:
I feel guilty if I don’t do a lot of work on the weekend. Ideally, I know that this is a great time to either get ahead, or, more likely, get caught up. Especially with planning and grading papers. However, I work so hard during the week (up at 4, bed around 11) that I like to just spend my weekend completely on myself and what I want to do. So what should I do? I think the obvious answer would be to possibly scale back the amount of work I do during the week and also do some work on the weekend. However, I think if that’s my alternative I’d rather just work myself to the bone during the week and have two blissful days of recovery every weekend. What do you veteran teachers do?
I do a blend. Some weekends I come in to school and work. Other times I don’t do ANYTHING school-related over the weekend (however, I find that if I’m procrastinating, the work hovers over my head the whole time).
